Poor Parenting Causes Stealing ; Stealing Causes Death

There was one youmg man of about 32 years old from my village. He stole his employer's brand new Peugeot 505 Evolution car in 1985. He was a driver to the CEO of a company based in Enugu, Nigeria. He lied to his boss that dare-devil armed robbers had snatched the newly bought car from him at a gun point. He brought the car to our village during the weekend; and parked it in front of his father's house. Contrary to his expectations, his father was sad when he saw the car. While other young people were heartily jubilating as he entertained them, his father sat down somewhere in isolation, watching them. His father called him inside his bedroom and asked him where he got money to buy such a costly flashy brand new car. He was unable to proffer any coherent answer to his father's question because he had earlier told him that his monthly salary was five hundred (500) naira only. Therefore, following his inability to convincingly tell his father the true source of the car, his father forced him to remove it out of his compound. The young man drove the car to an area that he believed was a no man's land. I call it a no man's land not because it does not belong to any family, but because it is a solitary place. It was the village's old market ground. It is an isolated and lonely place as well. Against his thought, the family which owns that land where he parked the car went and told him to remove the car from their land with immediate effect or risk the option of being reported to the police. The enraged family's argument was that, if his own fathers wide compound could not accommodate his car, their own land will not accommodate it too. Then, he drove the car away from there to the third place and parked it there. The family which owns the land came to him with great fury and demanded that he must remove it from their land in a split second. They threatened to invite the police to arrest him should he fail to take the car away from their land. In fact, most people in the village began to suspect that the car was truly stolen from the legitimate owner. There and then, he consulted with his friends who lived at home about lack of parking space for his car. Now, they came up with an advice. They advised him to take the car to Aba and sell it there. Unfortunately for them, that intended journey to Aba to sell that car was counter-productive and ill-fated to them, especially to the alleged car owner. They were three in number going to Aba to sell that car. Their hope was suddenly smothered in disappointment! Why? It was because the threesome ran into a normal police checking point which had no least information on the stolen car. Immediately the police flagged them down, his friends at the back seats of the car opened the doors of the car and ran into the bush, leaving the person who was driving alone in the car. Consequently, the police quickly arrested the driver and took him to the Police Station for interrogations. First, the police asked him to give the identities of the persons who dashed into the bush upon seeing them. After interrogations which did not give police convincing answers concerning the true ownership of the car, the police televised it so that the public may see it. It was then that the true owner of the car saw it in Enugu, and quickly drove to Aba. After talking to the police, it was proved beyond all reasonable doubts that he was indeed the true owner of the car. Upon recovering the car, the car owner and the police took the car thief to court for car theft. The car thief was convicted and sentenced to prison for many years. He died in the prison when he was on the verb's of finishing his prison sentence. It was widely alleged that the car owner bribed the prison workers (wardens) to poison his food. And, they did! He was very hale and hearty a few days to his departure from the prison yard. But, it did not end as he thought. He died. Parents should tell their children not to engage in stealing anything at all, whether big or small. The young man who died in this true story did not know in the least that he was dancing the dance of death. He thought that he would get out of it unscathed. But, it was not so. If he had known that death will meet him by stealing that car, he would not surely have done it! To be forewarned is to be forearmed! Kindly share this story with your friends and loved ones. You may save lives by doing so.
