Stories of Teenagers Who Died During Abortions

One young teenager in Lagos fell pregnant. She was from my village. When she became pregnant, she lied to her uncle that she was suffering from typhoid fever. They started administering anti-typhoid drugs wheras she was pregnant. Finally, she went to the Lagos General Hospital for the abortion. Unfortunately for her, she died in the process of the abortion. I was not in her good book when she was alive because I warned her to desist from promiscuity.As a result of that, I became her enemy till she died. She never greeted me or spoke to me. Following her death, our Town's Union Meeting delegated me and one other man to go to Lagos General Hospital's mortuary to pick her corpse for burial at Ikoyi Cemetery. I was reluctant to go for that burial because I felt that I was not the right person to bury her. My Town Union's Meeting insisted on my going for her burial. Then,I went. The family of the deceased girl gave me her clothes and pair of shoes to dress her up at the mortuary after washing her corpse. I and my colleague bought a casket and procured all required burial documents and left for Ikoyi Cemetery for her burial. Before heading to Ikoyi Cemetery, the doctor gave me her death report. I handed it over to the deceased's uncle and guardian who was crying profusely without stopping. Before this time, I had known very well in my heart that it was not typhoid fever that killed her as she claimed when she was alive. Why? It was because the medical report confirmed beyond all reasonable doubts that the girl died in the process of doing an abortion just as I had earlier thought. The report stated clearly that the young girl died of Retained Product of Conception and Septicaemia. The first one, RPOC, refers to remaining placental or fetal tissue in the uterus after pregnancy. It occurs after miscarriage, planned termination of foetus or abortion or preterm or orterm delivery. The second one, Septicaemia, means blood poisoning caused when big quantity of bacteria enters into the blood stream. So, the girl did not suffer from typhoid salamanda parasite. Not only that, when the mortuary attendants brought out her body for washing and dressing, she was bleeding so much from her private part. Secondly, her breasts were excessively enlarged, swollen, pointed and milk was dropping in ceaseless flow like a fountain. So, when her uncle was crying and questioning God why his sister's daughter died, it pained me in the heart because it was not God that killed her. She died because she did not listen to instructions. Her parents did not give proper parenting too. When the deceased's uncle persisted in blaming God for the girl's death, I walked straight to him and warned him to stop accusing God of what He is innocent of. I told him that the girl died when doing an abortion. At that point, he stopped crying and came softly to me and said. " How do you know that she terminated pregnancy?" I told him to give me the death report which was in his pocket. I read and explained it to him. He immediately brought out his handkerchief and began to wipe his tears away. Parents should ensure at all cost that their children do not engage in premarital sexual affairs. If parents neglect this timely advice, they will not like what will happen to their children!
