Fulani Elite's Advocacy For Government's Dialogue With Terrorists And Bandits

The recurring behaviours of Fulani leaders advocating for government's dialogue and negotiations with terrorists and bandits have raised eyebrows and sparked intense debate. A closer examination reveals a disturbing trend of selfish aggrandizements and complicity in the perpetuation of violence. The Fulani leaders' insistence on dialogue and negotiations with terrorists and bandits stems from a desire to protect their own interests and maintain an incessant grip on power. By advocating for negotiations and dialogue, they create an illusion of addressing the root causes of terrorism and banditry, while actually shielding their own culpability in the crisis. This insincere approach allows them to reap benefits, such as huge ransoms paid to secure the release of kidnapped individuals in hostage, often with government's complicity.

The lucrative nature of princely ransom payments for victims has inadvertently turned kidnapping into a profitable business, with some Fulani leaders allegedly involved in or benefiting from these shady deals. By relentlessly pushing for a dialogue and negotiations, they create a system where violence is legitimized and rewarded, and perpetrators are incentivized to continue their nefarious activities ad infinitum. This cycle of violence and payoff has become both normative and self-sustaining industry, with some leaders of Fulani origin exploiting the situation for material enrichment.

Furthermore, Fulani leaders' selective outrage and silence on terrorism and banditry are absurd in terms. They often traditionally condemn attacks on "collateral targets" like schools, markets, or mosques, while ignoring or downplaying violence against non-natives, minority groups, or people referred to as "arne" or infidels by Muslims. That is why the Fulani leaders feel happy each time Christians are killed and Churches burnt. To them, it is an extension of landslide victory and superioty of Islam over Christianity. This hypocrisy suggests that their priority is not the safety of the Nigerian citizenry, but rather, protecting their own interests and maintaining regional influence and control. The Fulani leaders' forum has consistently called for dialogue and negotiations with Boko Haram and other bandit groups, often citing humanitarian concerns or the need to address root causes. However, this approach has yielded little or no outcomes, with terrorists and bandits simply using negotiations and dialogue as ruse to regroup and re-weaponize. The Fulani leaders' stance has been widely criticized for being stone-deaf to the legion of plights victims' families are subjected to and ignoring the government's responsibility to protect citizens.

This unwholesome pattern of selfish behaviours suggest that most Fulani leaders are simply hypocrites and they prioritize their own survival and enrichment over the welfare of Nigerians. By persistently advocating for dialogue and negotiations with terrorists and bandits, they perpetuate a system of violence and impunity, where might makes right, and the rule of law is flagrantly undermined.

To break this vicious cycle, Nigeria needs a paradigm shift. The government must take a hard and immovable stance against terrorism and banditry, prioritize citizens' security, and hold accountable those benefiting from violence. Fulani leaders must undergo a moral ecdysis to shed off or molt their hypocritical skins and be transparent at least for once about their dealings with terrorists and bandits and prioritize the nation's interests and security over personal gains. Only then can Nigeria tackle the scourge of terrorism and banditry and build a more just and peaceful society. The Fulani elite usually have personal interests or benefit tied to the activities of these terrorists and bandits, leading them to advocate for dialogue and negotiations with the criminals without minding the feelings of loss of the bereaved families. Dialogue might be seen as a means to achieve political goals or negatively influencing government's policies to the sectarian advantage of few instead of all the Nigerian citizenry.
