An Open Letter To The US Congress: Request For The Splitting of Nigeria

 The Honourable US Congress

United States House of Representatives

Washington, D. C

Dear Honurable Members of Congress,

I'm sending my heart-felt greetings to you all! I write to bring to your attention the dire and precarious situation of Nigeria which you are already aware of. Chrisrians are facing an unprecedented violence and persecution in the hands of unrepentant Islamic Fulani jihadists of Northern Nigeria daily. While still bearing the irreparable loss of over 850, 000 Christian lives in the last 20 years perpetrated by Fulani jihadists, the tradition of Christian genocide has still persisted till this moment. The recent abduction of over 166 worshippers (men, women, and children) in Kurmin Wali, Kaduna State, is a stark reminder that an urgent action in the right direction is required. As the world condemns these atrocities meted out by Fulani Muslims to Christians, it is imperative that we explore all avenues to protect the endangered Christian communities in Nigeria.

Presently, over 75% of Christians in Nigeria do not attend Church services on Sundays and other weekly programmes again. They do not want to die! In some parts of Benue State, Catholic reverend fathers attend Church services with sohpisticated AK-47 rifles for protection since they cannot fail to conduct the morning Mass for the congregation. That is how precarious the situation has become! The ongoing conflict in Nigeria has led to significant human rights violations, with Christians being disproportionately targeted for total annihilation. The situation is further exacerbated by the Nigerian Government's inability to provide adequate security, leading to calls for secession from embattled federating groups. In light of this, I humbly request that the US Congress, under the able leadership of President Trump, consider supporting efforts towards the separation of Christian tribes from Muslims in Nigeria. That may seemingly be the right approach to stop Christian genocide, burning of Churches, displacement of vulnerable population, rape, forced conversion to Islam, forced female child marriage, and other vices perpetrated by Islamic fundamentalists.

Just recently, on January 18, 2026, to be precise, radicalized Fulani jihadists attacked three Churches and abducted 177 Christian worshippers in Kurmin Wali, Kaduna State, Nigeria. Out of 177 hostages, 11 men escaped, remaining 166 missing in the pristine forests of Kaduna State. An infallible report said that the attackers stormed the Churches around 9am, gathering worshippers and marching them like a sheep without shepherd to their hideouts. In fact, some of the victims are nursing mothers with babies of less than 12 months old. Some are men, women, and children. The abductors are first demanding for twenty-eight million, nine hundred thousand naira (Nigerian Currency) or 17 motorcycles allegedly seized during recent operations, as step one condition for releasing the victims. The incident has sparked widespread concerns across the world, with the global community questioning their rights to kidnap and kill people arbitarrily. The international community has also called the the Nigerian Government to swiftly intensify efforts towards the release of those hostages, who are mostly women and children. Infact, many of them are below two years of age. They went to Church to worship God and became trapped! The Nigerian Christians are between the Scylla and Charybdis ( two imminent dangers). If they go to Church, radicalized Fulani jihadists will kill them. If they fail to go to Church, divine judgment will befall them. The Nigerian Government has confirmed the abduction and promised vehemently to secure the release of the hostages.

The US has a track-record of supporting human rights and freedom globally. I earnestly wish that our own case shall not be an exception. Nigeria's designation as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) under the International Religious Freedom Act invariably highlights the gravity of the situation. How long shall Christians be killed and persecuted in Nigeria? How long shall successive Nigerian Governments be paying princely ransoms to the Fulani bandits and their mentors and arms suppliers? How long shall South be chained in the neck with rope of brass and taken to the slaughter house by the North? How long shall evil rule over good? How long shall we be living in fear? When shall over 5 million displaced Christians in Plateau and Benue States alone return to their homesteads to live peacefully? Can't something be done in a timely manner to alleviate the problem of Christian genocide permanently? Are there no concerned people on this Earth to save vulnerable lives hanging in the balance?

Yes, from the bottom of my heart, I profoundly thank the visionary leadership of President Trump and the US Government at large, for showing concern to the plights of Christians in Nigeria. I also appreciate the military actions that US took against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria. However, looking at the crystal ball, it is obvious that military actions alone cannot deter the dare-devil Islamic extremists from invading innocent Christians. To me, I believe that secession is the only proven antidote to Christian genocide in Nigeria. Let the US Government split this ungovernable Nigeria into two or more parts. If for any reason the agitation for secession fails, it surely means that Christian genocide must persist unabated in Nigeria forever.

Thank you very much honourable Congressmen and Congresswomen of the United States, while looking forward to your positive response towards the secession of Nigeria into two or more parts. We need your immediate help to deliver us from this bottomless pit called Nigeria.

Yours sincerely,

 Uduma Okeh.
