53 Impacts of Poor Parenting on the Collapsing Global Society

The family is the smallest unit of the global society. It consists of husband, wife, and child (children). The good and evil activities of the world all begin at the family levels. The future of the world depends on the children. If this is true, it therefore behooves all parents, irrespective of race, colour, tribe and background, to do the needful by embarking on proactive parenting practices so as to raise children who will make the world a co-habitable place. Against this backdrop, however, many parents have failed woefully in their responsibilities of good parenting. The negligence of appropriate parenting is the single greatest cause of all social vices which are buffeting the world. Parents are the eyes through which children see the world. A child can only believe in himself if the parents first believe in him. That was why John Maxwell said, "A child has no clear picture of himself. He sees himself only through the eyes of his parents." Everything in the environment: people, cultures, languages, activities and engagements are totally new to children. If their parents are good, they tend to be good like them. If their parents are unfriendly and hostile to people, they will learn to be unfriendly and hostile to everybody too. They believe that their parents are exactly what the world is. To them, their parents are the truest definition of the world. They believe unflinchingly in their hearts that everyone in the environment is like their parents. For this reason, it is imperative that all parents should show good examples to their children. Parents should spend quality time daily to teach their children morals, values, ideals, etiquettes, good behaviours and civic responsibilities. Teach them what to do and what not to do both at homes and outside their homes. Teach the children what to learn and what not to learn. Children should be taught what to say and what not to say. Tell them the places that they should go and the places that they should never go. Explain to them why they should do those things you told them to do; and why they should not do the ones they are instructed not to do. If you fail to clearly explain those things to them, they would not be able to defend them before their peers at schools. Children spend more time at homes and at schools. Hence, the Governments of the nations and regions of the world should promulgate proactive legislations aimed at including proper child education programnes in their schools' curriculum. This implies that, while parents shall be teaching them at homes, the teachers shall be teaching them at schools as well. To be continued...
