Signs That You Won't Get A Job After An Interview
While it is impossible to know if you will get a job after an interview, there are certain signs that can indicate a less-than-positive outcome, and by paying attention to these signs, job seekers can gauge their chances and adjust their expectations accordingly.
When an interviewer seems disinterested or unengaged during the interview, it is a sign that the interviewee (applicant) will not get the job. If the interviewer appears distracted, checks his/ her mobile phone randomly during the interview, or fails to ask relevant questions pertaining to the job, it may be a sign that the interviewer is not impressed with the job seeker's qualification, or that the job seeker is not fit for the role due to one reason or the other. For example, if an interviewer is glancing at his/ her wrist watch or seems to be rushing through the conversation, it is an obvious sign that the company is not interested in moving forward the job seeker's application.
Another sign that shows that you will not get the job after an interview is when the interviewer does not ask about your availability to start work or does not discuss the details of the job with the applicant. If the interviewer fails to bring up these topics, it is an indication that you will not get the job. The company wants to go after other candidate (s) for hiring (employment). For example, if the interviewer does not ask about your notice period or does not provide information about the job's salary and fringe benefits, it is very possible that the company is not considering you for the position.
Furthermore, if the interview is cut halfway or the interviewer seems to be in a hurry to wrap things up, it may be a sign that interview did not go well at all. No interviewer will be in a haste to discuss with a highly competent employment material. None does that! A good interview typically allows for a thorough discussion of the job and the candidate's qualifications. If the interviewer is rushing through the conversation, that may be indicative of his/ her lack of interest in the job seeker. For example, if an interview which was scheduled for 30 minutes is wrapped up in 15 minutes, it is possible that the interviewer did not get the information he/ she wanted from the applicant, or was not impressed with applicant's responses and overall performance.
Additionally, if the interviewer does not provide a clear information about the next steps in the process or does not give you (job seeker) a clear timeline for getting back to you, it may simply mean that he/ she is not interested in moving forward with your application. A good interviewer will typically provide some guidance on what to expect next and when you anticipate hearing back from the company. For example, if an interviewer does not provide any information about the expected timeline for making a decision or does not offer to follow-up with you, it may mean that the company is not considering you for the position.
